The first Leather/Levi Weekend (LLW1) occurred on August 10-12, 2001. It sprang from a discussion in The Leather Forum of San Francisco in 1999, although it was not officially an activity of that group. Also it was not officially a joint project of the clubs in the Bay Area, although many of their members were involved in that effort.    LLW2 is a continuation of the effort started with LLW1. In January 2002, enough new and returning enthusiastic people from LLW1 met and decided to produce another weekend in August 2002, similar to LLW1.

January 2002:

• Decided to produce LLW2 on the weekend of August 9-11, 2002.
• Received the transfer of the reservation for Saratoga Springs Resort that was previously held by The Defenders/SF for that weekend.
• Identified key committees and volunteers to chair some of the committees.

 

February 2002:

• Identified more people to hold some of the key committee positions.
• Decided to offer greater incentives to attract 1st timers: Bed space set aside exclusively for their reservations if received by 7/9, $99 run fee if submitted by 7/9.

March 2002:

• Recognized that 44 applications have been received.
• Decided on design for run pin.
• Worked on idea for T-shirt design.
• Reaffirmed policy of assigning bed space on first-come basis.
• Established Internet domain name LeatherLevi.org for our web site.
• Recognized that 44 people have signed up for LLW2 so far, half of them by using the online application provided by Frantix through our web site.
• Continued to work on publicizing LLW2 by distributing applications in bars and at square dancing events.
• Continued negotiating with Saratoga Springs on contract details.

April 2002:

• Recognized that 63 people have registered so far for LLW2 and that private rooms and private cabins have already sold out.
• Decided to maintain a waiting list for private rooms/cabins that could become available later from cancellations or release of beds held for 1st timers after 7/9.
• Agreed on ad fees for the run program.
• Discussed providing vendor booth space near the pool area.
• Decided not to allow tattooing or piercing due to liability concerns.
• Agreed on sponsorship levels and benefits for sponsors.
• Found a coordinator for food committee.
• Discussed selling ads on T-shirts.
• Signed the contract with Saratoga Springs and paid the first deposit.
• Worked on ideas for publicity/outreach in next few weeks.
• Approved re-adoption of last year's Bylaws for the organization.

May 2002:

• Recognized that 110 applications have been received.
• Discussed the schedule for dungeon sessions during LLW.
• Approved contracting with a caterer for all food except lunch on Saturday, which we would prepare.
• Prepared to pay the second installment payment to Saratoga Springs.
• Reviewed plans for awards and bike events.

June 2002:

• Recognized that 129 applications have been received.
• Reviewed the schedule for all activities during the weekend.
• Assigned responsibilities for preparing text for the run program.
• Discussed ID badges for attendees.
• Reviewed the plans for biker/buddy events on LLW and the ride from SF to Saratoga Springs.
• Made available a volunteer form for attendees to enter online to help during LLW.
• Extended the deadline for Regular Registrations and First Timer Registrations to 7/22.
• Identified a new chair for the beverage committee.

July 2002:

• Recognized that 179 people are currently coming to LLW.
