History

Leather-Levi Weekend started as a concept in 1999 as a way to introduce the new generation into the Leather-Levi / Kink / S&M culture and community. Community has always been an important part of LLW, whether that means the group of people who work to get the event rolling, the people who attend the event, the outstanding individuals who work every day to gain or maintain our rights in society as gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, queers, kinks, and a myriad of other labels and roles.

Lesbians and gays have not always had the freedom that we enjoy today. Many members of the community became involved when one still had to mask their identity while in public. When HIV and AIDS tore through the community, the social groups refocused on helping each other to get medical care, food, and even shelter in emergency situations. These needs still exist today, and our communities are there to help. At the same time, we want to have fun. These balances between freedom and responsibility, fun and fetish, individual and community are part of what LLW is about.

We hope you enjoy looking through some of our digital archives. You may notice that we are deficient for some years. If you have any items that you would like to donate to the digital vaults, please email our Vice-Chair 'rover'.
